-Misc.:
Merits:Appearance:
Iron Will - Hugh has lived for a very long time, and he has kept his mind sharp through the years. His experience of age has caused his mind to be nigh impenetrable, should any whippersnapper think they can waltz in and dominate him.
Green Thumb - Hugh is extremely adept at growing plants, strangely enough for a kindred. However, he has corrupted this power and created a genetically engineered seed.
Corporate CEO - Hugh is the CEO of the agricultural biotechnology company, Monsanto. Monsanto is the world's leading producer of the herbicide glyphosate, marketed as "Roundup". Monsanto is also the leading producer of genetically engineered (GE) seed; it sells 90% of the US's GE seeds.
Flaws:
Disfigured - Being a Nosferatu, Hugh is incredibly disfigured. His true form is quite startling and would break the masquerade instantly if seen by mortals.
Disturbing Mannerism - When contemplating something, Hugh will scratch at the tumor on his head, which many find quite disturbing.
Driving Goal - Hugh has a driving goal to rid himself and all Nosferatu of their curse of deformity. He has devoted much of his life to this cause, with little results.
Hard of Hearing - Hugh was 52 years of age when he was embraced, and his hearing was starting to go. As a result, he has been hard of hearing. He uses this to his advantage, having an excuse to ignore those he finds annoying.
Addiction - While researching GE seeds, Hugh came across a particular plant that he found had interesting effects on a person when smoked. He has a hired team of druggies who get paid to smoke this drug, and he has bloodbags made with their blood to get this unique high. He has kept the recipe for this plant all to himself.
Dark Secret (Effimero Sognare) - Effimero Sognare is Italian for "Ephemeral Dream". It is what Hugh was named his GE plant made drug. When he drinks the blood of a human who has smoked his plant, he finds that he is able to dream, for the shortest while... or at least he perceives it as dreaming. On normal kine, it gives nothing but a short high, much like a cigar. Hugh has kept the recipe and manufacture of the plant a secret. The last factory that produced it was one based in Hiroshima, under the cover of research and development for GE seeds, though recently that plant has been closed and moved to a new location.
Bound - When Hugh made a deal with Serpentis to have Hugh's heart removed, he became bound to some spirit as part of the deal. Hugh doesn't know the exact details of this, and frankly he doesn't want to think about it, but he owes something a big favor.
Dark Secret (Heart Location) - Linked to the events mentioned right above this, Hugh had his heart removed during a deal made with the Setite Serpentis. Free of one of the weaknesses of being a kindred, he has hidden his heart away in a secret location that he has told no one of, not even his own brother.
As a Nosferatu, he is quite deformed, looking old and sickly. His deformities are described above.Fashion Sense/Style:
To keep the masquerade, he uses Obfuscate when in public to alter his appearance to mortals. They see one of two people. One is Hugh Grant, president of the Monsanto company, pictured below. This is actually what he looked like before he was embraced, but that is a secret only he and his brother know.
His other alter ego is a plastic surgeon. He never appears as the same surgeon more than once, so each time he disguises himself he's a new person. In his true form around kindred he looks quite similar to Hugh Grant, president of Monsanto, except with the deformities listed above.
For the longest time Hugh didn't care what he wore, since he didn't live with anyone but his brother. It was only recently that he began interacting with the public, and even then to do so with Kine he could appear to wear whatever he pleased. For his Hugh Grant Facade, he wears a business suit, classic business attire. During his plastic surgeon routines he wears scrubs and other needed medical attire. For his meeting with other vampires, he actually wears the suits that he pretends to don, but while adventuring out in front of Kine, he will wear blue jeans and old t-shirts.Personality:
Hugh Wilson is a man who cares more about a few particular beings than the rest of society. His brother, also a kindred, is very close to him, as are his two dogs. Most everyone else he treats as they do him, an ugly beast not worth the time of day. There are a few kindred who are able to get past the physical deformities of the Nosferatu, and these few people are the ones Hugh will begin to show respect to.Physical-Strength: 11
He is very old-fashioned due to the old age he was embraced at and from his long unlife as a kindred. He commands respect from the Nosferatu, and those who get past the Nosferatu's form usually see him as a wise elder. He is very much about business, yet in his own private time he gets his kicks. Hugh loves his own privacy; anyone daring to disrupt his acts or uncover his secrets makes a fast enemy, and just ask any of the farmers who have tried to fight Monsanto how that works out.

History:
Early Years: Life as Human
Hugh Wilson was born in a small Scottish village in the year 1622. His parents had to flee the country almost as soon as he was born, however, for as of 1620 witch hunts had begun in Scotland, and Hugh’s mother was one of the many accused. They fled on a ship and wandered for quite a while, settling down in various places, but for some reason or another always moving. Hugh was young during this process, and he never got to ask about it really, nor did he particularly care anymore.
The Wilson family, consisting of Hugh’s parents and his older brother, Douglas, had finally settled in a city in Italy called Messina. His mother would eventually pass away from a disease. Hugh was a farmer for most of his life, although he never did marry, unlike his brother, who had a wife, although they were unable to have children. Hugh always had a green thumb, and his crop always came in well, even during the more difficult seasons. Hugh lived a rather lonely life to others, but he had a great relationship with his brother, and strangely he took so sort of having friendships with the farm animals. Many of the neighbors considered him strange.
The City of Messina was under the rule of a foreign garrison, and in 1674 the city rebelled against the garrison. The leader of this garrison was a kindred, not a highly powerful one, but able to deal with a town of ordinary kine. Hugh was just about to head in from a hard day’s work on night as the sunset, when suddenly three men dashed across the field at blinding speed. They were easily able to subdue him, and as the cackled, the one of them spoke to the other. Hugh couldn’t understand what language they were speaking, but they were talking about something, and laughing. Then one of the figures removed a robe around his head to reveal a deformed head with boils and pale yellow skin and gray tufts of hair on his head. They had this Nosferatu embrace Hugh as a joke, to watch him suffer as he became started to become one of the deformed Nosferatu.
New Beginnings: Becoming a Kindred
He disappeared from his farm, unable to go back after become this new creature. He lived in solitude, and although humans fled at the sight of him, animals strangely did not. He took the dogs from his farm with him as he lived in the wilderness. He discovered that the sunlight burned after his first new day. We had just awoken from sleeping in a cave, although he had a lot of trouble sleeping, and he stretched out his hands upon waking, his hand splashed by sunlight as it extended toward the entrance of the small cave. He would one night meet up with another kindred, a Venture looking for a meal, and this kind kindred informed him of what he was. Extremely odd as it was for a Venture to even be talking with a Nosferatu, although Hugh didn’t know of the clans yet, this Ventrue answered some of the questions about kindred life, and even showing him some of the disciplines that he had received.
The next couple of years, Hugh lived alone in the wild, training his newfound skills. Often he would check up on his brother in the middle of the night. He found out one night that his wife had passed away. He wished he could speak with him, but was afraid to in his state. The Ventrue that Hugh had befriended was spying on him one night as he visited his brother, overhearing his mutterings of wishing to speak with him. The Ventrue, trying to help, thought that if his brother were embraced that he would be able to see Hugh again, and so later in the night embraced Hugh’s brother.
The following night Hugh went to check on the house when he found that his brother was not in the house. The next second in fact he was outside with Hugh, standing behind the house. Hugh could tell that he had changed somehow. The other Ventrue showed up, offering a business deal to both the brothers. He wished for the town to be taken back, as he worked for the garrison, and they needed more kindred recruits. The two brothers steadfastly refused and proceeded to instead kick the Ventrue’s . The Ventrue was sure that the gift of Embrace was something that would surely win the two over, but he was sorely mistaken. After enough injuries the Ventrue ran off to lick his wounds.
After this incident, they knew they couldn’t stay in Messina for too long, as the garrison’s kindred would attack them. So they left their town behind and set off for a new place to call home, a place perhaps with a chance to learn more about kindred, as they were both rather inexperienced about the manner.
Leaving the Hometown: The Start of a Grand Quest
Hugh and his brother left to find a place where many kindred would be located. It was a dangerous task, but they felt that it was the best choice of action. Hugh wanted to learn why he had become so grotesque, and his brother wanted to learn more about the kindred in general. One of the most populated cities nearby on the Sicilian Island other than Messina was Palermo, so that was their first destination. They were able to find a few kindred scattered among the city. They found here that many of the kindred lived in Rome, as it had one of the fewer sewer systems in the world at the time and it gave protection from the sun’s harmful rays.
Hugh met another Nosferatu in Palermo, and he explained to him the curse of the Nosferatu, and how it could never be reversed. He had tried himself, paying a tzimisce to perform their surgery-like powers to fix his deformities, but within minutes the changes reversed by themselves, resulting in his normal state of hideousness. Hugh visited this tzimisce himself and tried the exact same thing, paying him all the money he had left from his farm to perform his surgery. Using his fleshcraft, he changed Hugh’s features, and for an instant in time, he looked like his normal self. But soon his skin melted into its old yellow hue, and his tumor popped out of his head, and his veins coursed well above his skin again. Hugh knew right there that there was a way for him to return to his normal form, and he was determined to find the way.
After failing to change Hugh’s appearance at Palermo, the two decided to travel to Rome. The sewers there would provide them a place to gather during the day, if they so chose. The larger amount of kindred there also meant there was a greater chance of getting information for the two of them. It was a long journey, but Hugh found his concept of time changing. No longer did he feel aging and his mind deteriorating, although his hearing still wasn’t that great, he felt himself getting almost younger every day.
Life in Rome was full of learning for both brothers. There was a small library containing a few texts that some had taken the time to write down from the oral traditions of some of the tribes that were passed down. In order to gain access to this library, the two kindred had to join the faction of the Camarilla. The two brothers were not even aware that there were factions of kindred, and so they had no problem doing so if it meant they were allowed access to the library. For the next many years, they studied history and fed off the humans (and animals for Hugh) of Rome. Hugh learned of the discipline of Vicissitude and of the Followers of Set. The first was said to be able to craft the very form of flesh itself, although Hugh had already tried this and found it to be unsuccessful. The Followers of Set are said to be able to grant any wish for a person… for a price.
He decided to look for a skilled tzimisce first. Perhaps the one that he had seen before was not that highly skilled a kindred or a high generation one, which may have been why the operation had failed. He searched for a long time for such a being. He wasn’t able to travel outside Rome much, as he would need to find a place to hide away for the day, and the farther he was from Rome the less time he was able to search. He had no luck searching Italy for such a being. He was able to find a tzimisce hiding out in the wilderness of Italy, but he admitted that he had just been turned, and that he was a 14th generation kindred. One day he had decided to return to Rome. His brother awaited his return with good news: he had discovered a strong tzimisce in England that may be able to help him. Hugh’s brother was quite content with all the research he was able to do, although Hugh wasn’t aware at this point what he was researching. Hugh thanked his brother for helping him with his quest, and the two set off for London.
Gaining Progress: Adventuring Across the Globe
They had spent almost 100 years as kindred, wandering across Italy, surviving off the blood of kine and animal, and learning more about the kindred life. During their free time, they either worked on a farm (they hired workers to do the manual labor during the day while they attended to other farm duties at night), trained their vampiric disciplines, studied in the Roman Camarilla library, or tried to fit in with kindred society. But now the year was 1777, and the two brothers had just stepped foot into London. They were able to find one of the kindred pubs in London and asked for the whereabouts of this master tzimisce. Only one had any information on this man, this peg-legged eye-patched pirate dressed in a yellow trench coat. He knew of the tzimisce, who called himself Dr. Who.
The two kindred had to find some way to America if they wanted to chase after Dr. Who. They could try to get their own boat, but then they would have to get a crew and all that mess in addition to hiding Hugh from sight and such. They figured a more safe and effective plan would be to just sneak on board an English ship heading off to fight in the American Revolution. They could stow away in the deepest corners of the boat, and it was so dark that no one was able to see anyway, so they would be able to even interact with others if they wished to. So in the middle of the night they stowed away on a British naval ship, having overheard that it was set sail for New York in America. The boat ride was a long journey, and they were easily able to feed off sleeping soldiers. The ones who were sickly and complained of the difficult journey throughout the night were "overtaken by disease" and found to have passed on in the morning.
Arriving on the new continent of America was not as exciting to Hugh as he would have thought. Perhaps it was because he wasn't able to be a part of culture anymore; he didn't really get to see the differences in the lands. The wilderness was different, but it was still wilderness. Hugh didn't care for the revolution going on in America around him. Why should he care about kine matters? They act like the world belongs to them, and yet he himself uses them as a source of food, like a cow or a chicken.
Tracking down Dr. Who would be a difficult task, but they had all the time in the world. The two brothers first started the same way they did every time, by setting up a farm. Once they had a set of livestock and some steady income, they were able to prepare some blood to make friends with some local kindred. After finding a gathering of kindred, as there weren't cities as large as ones in Europe yet, they were able to ask around about this Dr. Who. One of the kindred knew exactly who they were looking for: he seemed to be his apprentice of sorts. They decided to trick the boy, saying it was Douglas who needed the service of a skilled tzimisce. They would more likely get an audience with the famed doctor this way then by telling the Nosferatu needed the operation. After negotiating a system of payment, he agreed to schedule an appointment.
On the day of the "operation", Hugh and his brother greeted this Dr. Who. He was an older looking gentleman with a long black coat and white hair. As they were discussing what exactly they wanted, they told the doctor that it was Hugh who wanted his appearance changed. The doctor shook his head and insisted that it was impossible. Hugh tried to reason with the man, asking to at least try, telling that they would pay even if it wasn't successful, but the man would not change his mind. Nosferatu were incapable of being changed, he said, and that's a fact.
Hugh of course didn't like his response, and stormed out in a rage. He started crafting ideas on a different approach to cleansing himself. There was the group of Setites, but they were located in Egypt, and Hugh didn't particularly want to travel across the ocean yet again. And even though he wanted to accomplish his goal badly, he wasn't in too much of a hurry. So he tended to his farm for many years, practicing his disciplines and trying to learn anything he could. He didn't know what his brother was doing with his time, but he didn't particularly care.
The years rolled on, and Hugh had become more skilled with his powers. He could now disguise himself as other people, removing the features of the curse. The was quite draining on him, however, and he required more blood to do this. He also found that he had great control over animals, not only able to command them but now possessing their bodies even. He would spend nights as a cow or a horse or a sheep, just to feel what it would be like.
After enough time had passed, he was able to purchase his own vessel. This was a process that took many, many years. He decided he would look to Eqypt for the Setites to see what they could do about his appearance. He felt it would be unfair to drag his brother along, so for the first time he split paths from his brother, promising to return after business was finished though.
The Search Continues: The Setite's Might
Arriving in Egypt, it was now the year 1880. Hugh had lived for many years, yet he did not feel as old as when he lived as a kine. He could hardly even remember what it felt like to be kine, in fact. The hot sands of Egypt were rather uncomfortable, awakening him from his nostalgic moments. It did not take long for him to find the Setites at all.
When he found one of the clansmen, he asked to be taken to one of their temples. He had read that the Setites conducted much of their activities in temples still, so he figured this would be where the strongest of them would be. At the temple, he talked with a priest, telling of his plight, and asking for assistance, adding to their delight that he would pay any price. As much as they wanted to take things from Hugh, they were unable to grant his wish, as none were powerful enough. The only one who could maybe do it was in Torpor, a man known as Serpentis. Hugh sighed, frustrated once again at reaching another dead end. He told one of the ghouls of Serpentis to tell him when he awoke that he had a potential client waiting for him, and that if he had the capability of locating him, he'd pay him whatever he asked.
All was not lost from his travel to Egypt, however. It was here that he saw a peculiar thing. A man was drinking the blood of a deceased corpse. Hugh asked the man what he was doing. The man replied by explaining the ritual of drinking the blood of something to learn it's memories. He had been training at this all his life. He said that when he got good enough, he would be able to gain powers from those he drank the blood of. Hugh was immediately interested in this; if he could learn this technique, he could take Dr. Who's powers and operate on himself. Hugh offered the man some of his own blood to train with daily in return for teaching him this power. The man was skeptical, but the promise of daily blood was something that he didn't want to pass up. It was very convenient for him to have some blood whenever he needed or wanted some.
So Hugh trained with the man for many years, until he was able to surpass his mentor and obtaining the ability to gain powers from blood himself. His proof of accomplishing this feat was his new-found strength gained in the discipline, potence, an ability of his mentors. As a show of thanks, Hugh had many bags of blood made for the man to practice on, since Hugh would now be leaving to find this Dr. Who again. After bidding farewell and gathering another crew, he set sail back to America to find this Dr. Who, and take matters into his own hands.
From Master to Student: Strength Transferred
When Hugh returned to America, he told his brother of his travels and adventures. His brother was able to keep all his tenant farmers in line while he was away, although the crops didn't grow quite the same as when Hugh was there. Hugh informed him of the new plan he had hatched and asked if he wished to help. Always one to help out his only brother, he agreed, and they had another arrangement with Dr. Who's apprentice.
They disguised themselves this time, Hugh using his vampiric power and his brother merely using a cosmetic disguise. The apprentice seemed much older now, and carried an air of grace. The two asked once again to get an appointment with Dr. Who, and to their shock the apprentice responded by saying that he was the very doctor standing in front of them. The two quickly made up a lie about having known his mentor, and wanting to have the operation done by him, and the apprentice answered their question of where he was, stating that he had passed away, and the man standing in front of them took his place. Hugh wondered what happened to the first mentor.
The new Dr. Who had an "operating room" right in the back of the bar, or rather, all he needed was an empty room. he didn't want to gross out the other customers at the bar he frequented; that would just be rude. Once the three kindred were alone, Hugh gave the signal to his brother. Apparently having been studying the domination discipline, he ordered the Dr. to merely stand perfectly still. This gave Hugh the chance to give his arm a bite, draining some of his blood. During the process, he was filed with memories of the doctor, who surprisingly was the same person, apprentice and master, all along. He also gained memories of all his surgeries, all his flesh-crafting and bone-crafting, even his first time entering a form of blood. He felt like he was flying through these memories, when all of a sudden he came back to a stop in the room, all three men silent. He nodded to his brother that it had been a success, and the two left the room.
Hugh decided to experiment first, offering his tenant farmers all their debt wiped clean if they offered themselves to practice. He picked one of them and began his test, first adding some wrinkles to his arm, then moving on to changing his facial features, and boldly even breaking bones and mending them again. At the end, he returned the man to his normal appearance: the experiment had been successful, and Hugh was ready to try it out on himself.
He gathered himself around a mirror and prepared to change himself. he was nervous with anticipation. Would this actually work? Would he finally be his normal self again? He started to form the flesh of his own skin, removing his boil, making his veins shift back under his skin, changing the color of his skin, removing all of his deformities. He looked in the mirror and saw his old self. In that instant he was become his old self again. That instant would soon pass, though, although Hugh wish it could have lasted forever. The work that Hugh had done had begun to reverse on it's own. His fingernails started to grow out to their unnatural size again, his tumor came back, the whole works. He was unable to change anything. If he had working tear ducts, his eyes may have watered with sadness. He was so close to his goal, and he could do nothing but watch it slip away from him.
Plans Foiled: Finding a New Hobby
Hugh spent the next many years merely existing. He thought of the pointlessness of his farm. He had watched many seasons come and go, he had watched many generations grow up around him. What was the point of any of it all? He decided that being a small time farmer wasn't good enough anymore. He was going to command the respect of the kine around him.
This led Hugh to donning a kine persona: that of one John Francis Queeny. He knew no one would respect him as a farmer all his life, so he became a veteran of the pharmaceutical field. As Queeny he was able to invest in a company which would become known as Monsanto. He had used much of his money earned over the years to invest in this company, and although farmers didn't make that much money, all his years of doing it added up.
He began building up this company, which at first produced things like vanilla and aspirin, and later rubber. As the times and technology changed, the company started to produce more chemical based products.
One day while in his office, specifically designed to let no sunlight in, he found an envelope greeting him on his desk. The contents were from a Mr. Serpentis, who happened to be in New York City, hearing that Hugh was a successful businessperson in need of a favor. Hugh had put his plan on the back burner, but this was the spark to start up his ambitions again.
Hugh met with this Serpentis and told him of his problem. He was greeted with bad news; Hugh wouldn't have the resources now to find a solution to his problem. However, he did have a thriving business, and with enough time he could gather enough resources for this to become possible. Acquiring this many goods, however, would be bound to catch the attention of some people looking to steal his goods away, so he offered him a deal for now. If he were to make a pact wit ha spirit, he would remove Hugh's heart form his body, allowing him to walk to city free without worry of being staked. No one would be able to incapacitate him, and his vampiric disciplines were well practiced enough to make him a formidable opponent provided the fight was fair. Hugh agreed to this, and was presented with a clay pot containing his heart. So long as he had a good hiding place for it, it would be a solid defense against his enemies. He set sail soon afterward. He had a good idea for a hiding place, and he would be able to make some business deals on the way as well.
Grinding for Money: A Repetitive Cycle
After returning from his business trip, Hugh returned to his company. He would spend until 1925 until the present day as President of Monsanto. He would have to switch his identity as his personas grew older, but he was able to maintain head of the company.
Monsanto became one of the largest multinational agricultural biotechnology corporation in existence. It was so big that Hugh was able to research anything he wanted really. He was able to discover a new drug on complete accident. It appeared to only really have an affect on kindred, or at least his thesis on the drug says. He is the only kindred who has taken the drug, as he keeps it a well guarded secret.
As Hugh climbed the ladder of Corporate America, he also began climbing the ranks of the kindred society living in New York. He had been living in New York for many, many years, and because of his strength and influence among the kine, as well as his ability to be one of the few Nosferatu to be able to go out into public without breaking the masquerade, he started to gain power in the kindred world. He soon rose higher and higher in power. It wasn't long (for a kindred, anyway) before the old Nosferatu Primogen got in trouble with the Church and was forced to leave the city for a long while. The position of Primogen was up, and Hugh impressed the rest of the Nosferatu with a grand display.
Hugh had talked with Serpentis, asking if he really could remove the curse. He wanted some kind of proof, some insurance, knowing that all of his efforts wouldn't be for naught. Serpentis agreed that this was fair, and took his left hand. He waved his hand over Hugh's, and it appeared that nothing had changed. But Hugh was able to tell instantly: his pinky's fingernail had shrunk by 1/8th of an inch. Hugh knew that Serpentis was the real deal from this point on, and he also had something to brag to the other Nosferatu about. He used his power as a CEO of a major company, strength as a kindred, and unique ability as a Nosferatu who has come close to ridding himself of the curse of disfigurement to gain consideration for the position of Primogen, to which he was accepted.
Power Gained: One Step Closer
Hugh figured he would be close to gathering enough resources for Serpentis's ritual. His company was ruthless, valuing profit over all else, and trampling over all who opposed it. Hugh found that running a company that had to play by kine rules could get dull, so in his free time to get his kicks he started working as a "plastic surgeon". Hugh was responsible for the mess that is Jocelyn Wildenstein, pictured below. Hugh gets some sick kicks in occasionally making "mistakes" in a clients plastic surgery. In this case, Jocelyn claims to have wanted to have the surgery done that way, but it was actually a cover-up orchestrated by Hugh. Most celebrity Plastic Surgery mishaps are to be blamed on Hugh. He is able to do this because Hugh doesn't assume the same form during his surgeon routine twice; he is a new person each time.
Some of his other free time is spent taking his drug, Sognare. He drinks the blood of druggies that he pays to smoke his drug, and thus he is able to feel the high that they get. This high affects kindred in a different way, though, giving them the same state as dreaming, earning it's fitting name, Effimero Sognare, meaning "ephemeral dream" in Italian.
Most of Hugh's time now a days is busy spent dealing with business, either with his company or with his primogen duties. He doesn't get much time to himself, but he knows that one day he is going to accomplish his dream. And once that happens, he will finally be free. What happens then? Who knows.
