(Clan weakness) Ivo may only feed from a female who has successfully surprised or amazed him (or proved herself superior in any way). A bit tricky. This trait can be psychologically linked to his Sire, Theodosia Komnene, a powerful woman, to whom Ivo is bonded by blood. During their travels, he got used to drinking her blood, that's why his clan weakness developed in this direction.Appearance:
Fashion Sense/Style:
A rather tall, thin man, in his late 30's. He's somewhat ill-looking -- mostly due to his pale skin and high cheekbones. His gray eyes deepen this effect even further. Note to Sire-wannabes: always give your Childe a chance to shave properly before the Embrace, otherwise they'd end up with a two-day beard covering their face for the rest of their pityful non-existance.
Ivo is stuck in a different era and is not ready to keep up with the latest trends in fashion. Most of his clothes were actually bought in the late 1920's. He never was a cheapskate, so the pieces he owns are all made of quality, expensive materials, therefore they still sit and look almost decent on him. He prefers dark-coloured suits, vests, shirts, bow ties.Personality:
Ivo is a very charismatic person, a born leader, though this trait didn't appear fully prior to his Embrace. He is fully aware of the strenght of his individuality, which makes him somewhat arrogant and bound to seek dominance in any situation. Neverhtless, this is not blind power-thirst. He is fully capable of recognizing hierarchy.Physical-Strength: 9
Due to his traditional upbringing, some of his views cannot be referred to as progressive or liberal. He accepts the fact that society is to be run by the strongest and the most powerful individuals, and as a rule, those are meant to be the males. Ivo thinks that only almost no female can be accepted as a leader (or sometimes even as an equal) - Theodosia being a rare exception. His feeding habits (see "clan weakness") reflect this position.

Narrative:
Ivan Kolarov, born in Sofia, Bulgaria, as the third son of a rich wine-merchant (Stefan Kolarov) and his Macedonian wife (Vlasta Kolarova), a few decades before the turn of the century. He recieved a decent up-bringing and was noticed early for his outstanding wit, intelligence and, a strange trait for a 10-year old boy - wisdom. Ivo had a strong affinity towards scholarship and gaining knowledge in general, would spend most of his time reading books. His father encouraged this. After all, Ivo was his third son. The oldest brother was to continue in his father's footsteps and inherit the business. The second was to become an officer. Priesthood seemed to be the logical path (the only path) Stefan Kolarov could come up with for Ivo. At the age of twelve, he entered the Sofia Seminary.
It was there where he met Danail Petrescu, a boy four years his senior. Sharing many interests, they soon became close friends - as close as it was possible between the rigid walls of the Seminary. Danail was an unusual person. On the first hand, his dedication to priesthood was unquestionable. His father, grandfathers, grand-grandfathers all have been priests. It ran in the family, you could have said. And he had no intention going against this dynastical tradition. But on the other hand, despite his age (or due to?), he was an extremly talented poet. Danail was balancing between two extremes. In his spare free time he would visit taverns and cafes frequented by the bohéme and progressive writers, poets, thinkers. Ivo was not at all satisfied with his friend's second life but still sometimes followed him to these places, where he'd just sit in silence. Deep down in his soul he despised these people, even Danail. One night he confronted him. And this led to a serious backlash. The balance between Danail's two states (two minds?) was broken forever. He left the Seminary and disappered.
Ivo finished his studies at the Seminary and decided to continue them, depthening his knowledge in theology and philosophy. During his years at the Sofian Academia his relationship with other people were limited to none. His life consisted only of study and research, thousands and thousands of books, lectures, and, of course, endless hours of prayer. His faith was stronger than ever. After finishing his studies, he became one of the teaching staff, his progression was virtually unnoticed - he was spending most of his time at the Academia anyways and would give lectures to his fellow students while he was studying as well.
Ivo luckily avoided the draft during the Balkan Wars (his elder brother, a high-ranking officer helped him out), but when his country joined the World War in 1915, he was called in to serve as a field priest, despite his brother's efforts. Ivo took part in the Serbian campaign, got wounded, though not severly. On his return to Sofia, he found out that both his brothers were dead. The siege of Skopje calimed the life of the second son of the Kolarov-clan, while the eldest was executed for allegedly working for the Macedonian Revolutionary Organization. Stefan Kolarov, his father, was long dead by this time, and his mother was very ill. At this moment Ivo realized, that he was alone. He returned to his teaching position at the Academia, but his studies turned out to be barely a distraction. Ivo claimed it was Fate, when one day he stumbled upon a man he haven't seen for two decades - Danail.
Danail was broke, hungry, and without a place to go. Ivo brought him to his home, as an act of mercy, but also in desperate need of companionship. He also was desperate to hear Danail's story. Danail told him, that after leaving the Seminary, he left the country and traveled through all Europe, lived in London, then in Amsterdam for a few years. But he didn't mention any details about how he lived, and most importantly, through what resources. He sometimes said that he had "business" to do, and that he had to leave London in a haste, because his life was in danger, but wouldn't go into details, no matter how hard Ivo tried to find out the truth. In the morning Ivo went to the Academia, leaving Danail alone, sleeping off his tiredness. He returned only in the evening and found Danail sitting in his library with a tall, elegantly dressed woman. She introduced herself as Theodosia Komnene and claimed that she was a descendent of the last Byzantine dynasty, a defender of the true Faith. Ivo was told many things, and at that point he believed them all to be lies. All lies. Not a sinlge word that female pronounced could have been true. He was standing before a vampire, a creature of Darkness... he wasn't surprised to see the Evil incarnate clad in expensive clothes or bearing the face of a beautiful lady, but to hear her deliver fiery speeches in defense of the orthodox faith - that was something unexpected. After that it all went black.
The first few nights after Ivo's Embrace were cruel and destructive. He had no problem accepting the existence of the Kindred. But the fact that he was one of them, one of the Damned... Theodosia didn't even try telling him how he still had a chance to save his soul, she knew that'd be hopeless. But she managed to plant the thought in Ivo's mind, that he still had a mission amongst the humans and the Kindred. Ivo learned about this World of Darkness he was now a part of, he learned that Danail was Theodosia's ghoul servant, travelling through Europe fulfilling her errands. He was told all about the Camarilla and the Sabbat, the Anarchs and the Independents. He learned that the community of Kindred was just as unstable as the humans', if not even more. Ivo got caught up in vampire politics. Theodisia Komnene's bloodline formed a certain inner opposition of the Sabbat, going against the Catholic Lasombras and Ventrue antitribus who ruled most of Italy and Spain and now wanted to expand their domain to the East, to the Balkans and Eastern Europe. The Komnenoi, an ancient Ventrue bloodline originating from somewhere around the 4th century, allied themselves with the Tzimisce.
Between the two World Wars, Ivo stayed with Theodosia, escorting her to various countries, learning all that he could. He was to become a spiritual leader, a pack priest. He had everything needed for such a position: will, leadership and most of all, faith. The packs of the Komnene dynasty were not just bunches of shovelheads teaming up around the strongest bully. Of course, all packs included less talented members, for shear power. But their tactics and methods were more sophisticated then of their Western collegues. Ivo became the member of the Sol Invictus pack, taking the place of a Tzimisce priest slain by werewolves. For the first time in the last twenty years Ivo had to part from Theodosia, as the Sol Invictus pack was sent Romania & Hungary to consolidate the Lasombras who tried to get the region under their control, using the chaos of World War II to their own advantage. After the war was over, Ivo got relocated to Vienna, with the only living member of the Sol Invictus, the Nosferatu Hermann Gropius. They acted under cover, infilitrating the Camarilla and spying for Theodosia. Throughout the years spent in Vienna, Ivo learned to veil his intentions and stay unnoticed if needed. He also managed to forge himself a false identity - he started posing as the Childe of a certain Ventrue from Budapest, Hungary, Laszlo Foldes. This Kindred was killed and diablerized by the late ductus of the Sol Invictus, he didn't leave any traces, so he was perfect for Ivo's cover story. It was also in Vienna where Ivo, given a decent capital by Theodosia, got into collecting and selling rare books.
Nothing lasts forever, though. In 1979 Hermann Gropius was executed - somehow it got known that he was a spy for the Sabbat. Ivo had no intention finding who leaked out this information to the Camarilla and a few months later left Vienna. He reunited with Theodosia and the two once again embarked on a serie of travels all over Europe, sometimes with a certain aim, but mostly just enjoying themselves -- if joy is a valid term for two creatures awaiting eternal damnation. Then they separated again, Theodosia retreated to one of her Havens in Bulgaria while Ivo set forth to the New World. For about ten years he lived in a small city near Boston, running a little antique bookshop, then decided to move to New York. He bought a decent place there, just what he needed for his shop, rented a flat, got things sorted out. The cover story he used to have in Vienna was still active - officially, he was Childe to the deceased Ventrue Laszlo Foldes. Theodosia encouraged his move to New York, as she was gathering information and suspected that the Big Apple might be the hiding place for some of her sworn enemies.
And this is where the story begins.
